Determining the difficulties encountered in double stops violin training and analysis of the methods used

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the difficulties experienced by violin students in double-stops studies, to determine the difficulties experienced by violin students according to violin educators in double-stops studies and the solutions suggestions of violin educators to solve these difficulties, to determine the most preferred books by violin educators in teaching double-stops, to analyze the books in terms of right-left hand gains. In this case research, single-case embedded design was used. Five violin students who are able to play double-stops and received education at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Faculty of Education, Department of Music Education formed the analysis unit which was established to detect difficulties in playing the double-stops. The observations of these students' performances were carried out by 3 instructors. The analysis unit created for the analysis of the most used double-stops books in violin education was determined as the most used double-stops scale / etude and exercise books according to the data obtained from the interviews. In the research, data for the detection of difficulties in double-stops studies were obtained by using interview and observation technique. The data obtained from the interview and observation were analyzed by content analysis. Prior to the analysis of the data obtained from the observation forms, the inter-rater consistency was determined by the Spearman Brown Rank Differential Correlation Coefficient test using the SPSS 22 Program. The right-left hand gains of the double-stops scale / etude and exercise books, which are most preferred by the violin trainers, were analyzed by document analysis. According to the results of the research, it is seen that the difficulties of the violin students in the right and left hand and the difficulties observed by the violin educators in their students overlap. The books that violin educators use most are O. Sevcik Op. 9 Double Stops, Hans Sitt Op.32 Book V., H. Schradieck The School of Violin Technics Book 2: Exercises in Double Stops, Carl Flesch Scale System For Violin, Maia Bang Book IV. ve Book V. In the selected books, a total of 85 right-left hand gains, 63 in the left hand and 22 in the right hand, were determined. At the end of the study, studying suggestions were presented by the researcher in order to solve the difficulties in playing the double-stops.
