Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of music performance on life symptoms and anxiety. The population of the study consisted of patients receiving treatment in chemotherapy unit between 20.06.2018-20.04.2019 in Düzce University Research and Application Hospital. A sample group consisting of 40 experimental groups and 40 control groups with 80% representative power in the power analysis was formed and accepted to participate in the study. The data of the study was collected with 'patient identification form, state-trait anxiety inventory, vital sings before and after music performance measurement form' were collected by the researcher through face-to-face interviews. The music that will be played to the patients is composed of 60 decibels of 45 minutes, from Turkish maqams (Nihavend, Kanun and Nihavent Taksim) and classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin). Mean anxiety level after the second music performance was 26.95 ± 5,983 in the experimental group and 30.30 ± 8,42 in the control group and the difference between them is statistically significant (p=0,044). When diastolic blood pressure values were examined in experimental group, temporal change in second session music performance was statistically significant (p=0,039). There is a difference between 0 min. and 45 min., there is no difference between other times. Pulse measurement median values in the first session of music concert shows temporal differences in the experimental group (p=0,032). Differences were observed between 0 and 45 minutes, there is no difference between other times. The second session pulse rate median values of the music concert varied over time in the experimental group, no difference was observed in other parameters (p˂0,001). According to these results, it is thought that music performance without any side effects has a positive effect on life symptoms and anxiety levels in chemotherapy patients. Independent nursing practice is recommended. Keywords; Anxiety, Nursing, Chemotherapy, Music performance, Vital sings
