Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the effect of traditional bracket system and self ligating bracket system on dentofacial structures and root resorption in individuals with skeletal Class I and moderate crowding. There are a total of 72 patients included in the study. The first group was formed with 36 patients in the self ligating bracket group, the second group was formed with 36 patients in the conventional bracket group, and the patients were equally distributed. The mean age of the self ligating bracket group was 14.19 ± 2.01 years, and consisted of 14 male and 22 female patients. The average age of the conventional bracket group is 14.47 ± 2.02 years and consists of 12 male and 24 female patients. No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of age and gender. To compare the effects of the two groups on the dentofacial system and their effects on root resorption, panoramic and lateral cephalometric films of the patients taken at the beginning and end stages were used. While dentofacial changes were examined with angular and linear measurements made on the lateral cephalometric film, the changes in root crown ratio were examined with the measurements made on the panoramic film. The radiography dates taken at the beginning and at the end of the groups and the total treatment time were examined. The mean treatment duration of the self-restraining bracket group was 20.78 ± 6.42 months, and the mean treatment duration of the conventional bracket group was 20.22 ± 6.38 months, and there was no significant difference between the groups. Skeletal changes were not observed in either group. When the end measurements of the groups were evaluated, IMPA showed a significant increase in the second group, but did not show a significant increase in the first group. The inclination of the upper incisors increased significantly in both groups. The root crown ratios of the upper four incisors decreased in both groups, but there was no significant difference between the groups. When the findings are evaluated, it can be said that the clinical efficiency and treatment efficiency of both bracket systems are similar.
