The evaluation of the restoration studies for the urban trees: The model of Istanbul

This study, in which the applications of restoration for the urban trees are evaluated, is practiced to presenting the achievement of the restoration studies implemented to the trees in İstanbul and the ideas of the groups related. The trees are exemplified in a way to represent İstanbul by visiting 9 areas among those where all the tree restoration studies have been applied by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate Parks and Gardens Truncation and Restoration Chieftainsy since 2001 in the phase of the field study. In total, there are 67 tree samples are chosen by comparing the circumstances in the first year and 2001; and considering human and environment agents, the trees? monumental quality, the degrees of illness, the health condition and at least the place of the trees. ?The Tree Observation Card? which is prepared for this purpose is evaluated. In this evaluation, the trees? family, location, age, top diameter, top crown height, top initial height, top projection area, top crown density, heights, diameters, bruise/cavity dimensions, stem structures, sprout positions and the implemented treatment are defined. Moreover, to use in the evaluation of restoration studies, oral interview questions are carried out by utilizing face-to-face method with the operators of this field and academicians. In the scope of this research, general conditions, needs and problems of the trees restored are concordantly scrutinized. As a result, it is revealed that the environment where the trees which have bruise, decays and cavities exist is the vital factor for sustaining their lives healthily. From this point of view; the attention is drawn to the necessity of controlling despite of the civic constraints on the trees and solution offers are provided to put forth for disclosed problems.Key Words: The urban trees, the tree restoration, the bruises of the trees, the cavities of the stems, İstanbul.
