Culturalpark design model for urban archaeological sites: Case of Ancient City of Misis

Ancient City of Misis, which was named Cilicia in preterit, is stipulated in one of the substantial premises of the region and enlights the history of the region by its rich history and cultural inheritence of various civilisations within it's continous life since the Neolithic Age. In the thesis, the establishable cultural inheritence's eras of built, techniques, current situations and preservation of implementations were examined in accordance with the works in field and obtained data. The ancient city faced the issues of regional invasion due to the location of Organized Industrial Site of Adana and cultivated areas which stands upon it's borders. Furthermore, it was detected that the earthquakes and shanty settlements on the first and second degree of the archeological sites where the rustic life continues devastated the cultural inheritances in a considerable extent. In accordance with the issues stated above, the ancient cities and regions both located in Turkey and in the World that carries similar features were examined in order to accomplish the preservation of Ancient City of Misis and it's insert to cultural tourism. By comparison of the SWOT analysed examples with the Ancient City of Misis, it was aimed to bring a proposal for the ancient city by approaching within it's physical, social and economical dimensions. The proposed cultural park project for the Ancient City of Misis aims the preservation of the cultural heritages stipulated in the region and function these heritages by enlighting the history of the region. This project further aims the increase of the cultural awareness and contribute the utilisers in respect of social and economical fields and function these heritages by developing the project with the utilizers. In this respect, the project proposal is developed that aims to submit various activities to the visitors such as history, art, literature and agriculture by strengthening their connection with antecedents by opening the field to tourism.
