Abstract (EN)
This study, which deals with the relationship between art and the city, is based primarily on the definitions of social scientists who analyze the city from a sociological perspective. In this context, it can be said that the city is the product of a system that preserves the elements of the past and carries them into the future, collaging each period together and establishing a link between the past and the future. Subsequently, the emergence and social development of cities are examined, and the connections between the city-village difference, urbanization processes and culture are mentioned. Looking at the relationship between the city and the art of painting, it can be said that the art of painting emerged as a symbol of control over nature in the prehistoric period. In this direction, under the title of biophilic design, the existence of a progress that takes nature under its control with the transformation of the city is discussed. Since the 1980s, with the impact of industrialization and globalization, cities have entered a new stage in their change and transformation processes; it has been observed that cultural and urban policies have been integrated in the development of cities that have lost their industrial function. In this process, it has been stated that the historical centers of cities have gained importance again. In the analysis of the city of Şırnak, the destruction of 7 out of 12 neighborhoods in the center of Şırnak as a result of the social events in 2016 caused serious damage to this cultural structure. After the 2016 events, Şırnak turned into a "Concrete City" with physical changes. The subject examined within the scope of the thesis is divided into three parts for completeness. In the first part of the research, the definitions and historical developments of the concepts of city and culture are briefly given. In the second part, the ties of these concepts with art and culture are examined, and especially in the postmodern period, urban image practices in the art of painting are discussed and evaluated. In the conclusion section, the practices realized in this context are included and analyzed.
