Abstract (EN)

Borders are multi-layered and complex structures, forming the spatial organization of the urban landscape, through their dialectical function of connecting and separating different physical, social, economical, political and cultural phenomena. Though the idea of bordering is not new, the modes of bordering changed with the transformation of the social and economical structure of today's cities since 1980s. In the intersection points of metropolitan areas where different users interact, the permeability, flexibility and scale of boundaries have changed. The purpose of this study is to examine the social and spatial boundaries emerging in the urban residential areas of neoliberal cities in the case of Batı Ataşehir / Barbaros Neighborhood, which reflects the characteristics of the spatial development of the period, as well as the new forms of physical and social differentiation created by these boundaries, by examining the boundary concept and the physical and social reflections of urban boundaries into urban fabric. to analyze it. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the concept of the boundary, the spatial and urban reflections of bordering, to reveal the physical and social dimensions of the new urban borders emerging in Istanbul, to analyze the effects of visible and invisible boundaries on each other and on urban fabric and to discuss the future of the urban morphology.
