Abstract (EN)

Waste management is one of the methods that affect sustainable development in order to prevent environmental pollution. The implementation of this method through municipal studies required adopting new approaches and in particular environmental approaches. Accordingly, as a result of the increase in population, soil, air and therefore environmental pollution have also increased in cities. The effects of this can be seen as a city-scale or national problem. Air pollution and soil pollution factors negatively affect the sustainability of cities. For this reason, the contribution of both ecological and economic results to metropolitan municipalities is significant by establishing new approaches in sustainability, waste management and solid waste integrated facilities. In this study, the effect of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality solid waste assessment on urban sustainability was examined in terms of its impact on the sustainability of cities. The regulation storage area, leachate treatment water and LFG power generation plant, which started with the use of the facility established for this purpose in 2018, contribute to ensuring waste management. In addition, together with the facility, green city practices in zoning planning, electrical energy production and economic contribution with the use of green energy, prevention of climate changes by preventing air pollution are provided. For this purpose, the importance of abandoning the wild storage system in waste management in terms of urban sustainability has been emphasized and it has been stated that there are ecological-economic contributions with different methods. The scope of the research has been completed within the scope of such practices and effects.
