Urbanization processes and housing policies: Construction sector in Gaziantep Karataş sub-city

Throughout history, there has been a relational situation between capital groups and the state in the capitalist economic system. The focus of our research is how this relationality, which has been going on since the historical process, takes shape on cities today. Capital; to ensure circulation and to accumulate unlimited capital, while the state; they maintain some economic-politics in cities in order to strengthen and consolidate their power. They provide these policies with the production of the built environment in cities, so the construction sector and housing production processes are the areas where the relation between capital groups and the state is most visible. Therefore, the reproduction of capital through the built environment needs to be explained in detail. Basically, starting from these arguments, the recent increase in the construction sector and housing production process in Turkey is also important for understanding the relationship between capital and the state, as well as the general economic-political situation of the country. Based on this context, a research was conducted in the city of Gaziantep, which has recently shown a serious development in the production of the built environment and still continues to develop, and a sociological, economic and environmental evaluation of the current situation has been made. As a result of the data obtained, the importance of the production of built environment both on behalf of the state and on behalf of real estate developers was tried to be explained in the light of empirical data.
