An approach directed to the evaluation of the urban open space in terms of space quality: Analyzing the squares of İstanbul

Especially in the last ten years, in parallel with the technological and scientific developments in the world, researches have been done on the livability in the urban, people?s quality of life and together with this on the development of the quality of the urban space. The result of these researches are presented as research reports. Even, some countries supported this as state research and underscore the subject seriously in order to analyze it in a systematical way.In this study, in the context of the quality of the space and together with the developments in the world, it is worked on to renew these spaces, practice new designs and specify a suggested model and spatial quality parameters directed to these spaces both for the urban spaces (arenas and streets) which will be designed new and for the ones that will be rearranged.Accordingly, in the first section, the hypothesis that is related to the subject, the aim, extent and method of the study is mentioned. In the second section, in accordance with the description of the space quality, information about the space and its perception is given as the experience and perception of the space is the necessary condition.In the third section, the urban space and its elements are defined and it is explicated in detail in parallel with the researches of the past and the present day in literature. In the forth section, what the space quality and the quality of the urban space is examined, in general.In the fifth section, together with these researches, spatial quality principles, parameters, model and suggestion for the urban locations are presented.In the sixth section, approaches, methods and techniques on measuring the space quality is underscored and the methods and techniques, which may be used in this study, is assessed.In the seventh section, the reasons and criterions of the choice of the studied areas are determined, the process of the study is defined and at the end of the field study, the results and the comments of the findings is denoted.In the eighth section, it is studied on discussing the attained results and on forming suggestions for the onward studies related to these spaces.
