Environmental pollution analysis in urban areas: Gaziantep city example

Environmental pollution is one of the most important problems for today's cities as well as for the whole ecosystem. Environmental pollution from heavy metal occurs in urban areas due to different parameters such as industry, urbanization and population growth. As in major cities around the world, environmental pollution has become an important problem in Gaziantep city due to industry, transportation, population and consumption. Accordingly, in this study, the current state of environmental pollution caused by heavy metals in Gaziantep city was revealed by analyzing samples taken from soil and plant samples. Soil and planet samples taken in four different season from ten different locations in Gaziantep city and its immediate vicinity were analyzed in the laboratory environment. As a result of these analyses, it was determined that various heavy metals were concentrated especially in places close to Baspinar and KUSGET industrial zones. In addition, in the samples taken from areas such as Çamlıca and Mavikent, it was determined that different heavy metals depending on the population were effective in environmental pollution. Therefore, this study offered the opportunity to pre-evaluate the current pollution situation of Gaziantep city and led to future studies in diffirent disciplines.
