Cultural heritage's continuity and preservation issue in urbantransformation: Konya-Mevlana Culture Valley Project case

Urban problems are one of the issues that states are facing with at many parts of the world. Urban policies, on the other hand, are developed by governments with the concern of solving these emerging urban problems; a set of principles that they prioritize. When countries or local governments develop urban policies, it is controversial which policies and tools should be prioritized and which approaches are different according to the preferred political ideology. In this thesis, the approaches that emphasize the importance of urbanization in the local context and the development of the approach with an approach based on participation and public interest, have been discussed through the example of Mevlana Culture Valley Project of Konya Metropolitan Municipality. It has been understood that the value given as an 'urbanite' is important for the relationship between the local governments and their success on urban policies, as well as for the social acceptance of urban policies. Observation of the public interest and a participatory understanding of the local government have resulted in the need to develop 'original' solution recommendations specific to the urban problems that lived in different points of the city, even if the problem areas are the same.
