A research on quality in urban spaces and urban design guides in the context of local identity

In our ever-evolving world, we have to protect our local and original values and at the same time adapt to the innovations that our time brings. Especially, it is one of our major responsibilities to design the cities we live in, by taking into account environmental responsibilities, economic developments and the social environment. It is very important to protect the authenticity of urban identity while doing this designing. Because the cities actually reflect the identity of the communities living in those cities. Urban design is a term emerging within these needs. It is the whole of the works carried out in order to provide the needs and the comfort conditions of the communities living in it, in a way, to increase the quality of life. Urban space designs vary for each city depending on many parameters. Because the regional identity, the local characters, and the needs of each region differ from each other. In this context, cities are examined in the context of regional identity, environmental context, local characteristics, local morphology, natural features and socio-economic profile and design guidelines for the correct renewal of cities are created. In this context, within the study examples of urban design guides made on the world through urban parameters were examined and the Eyüp square and surrounding area were investigated and evaluated in the direction of these parameters.
