Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT The purpose of this work that examines movement factor influencing individual?s perception in architectural environments is to analyze visual perception changes depending on the speed of motion especially in urban spaces and to generate data for spatial arrangements. In the first section, the purpose of the work and the summary of literature are given. The second section starts with the examination of perception process in human-environment interaction system. The factors that have impact on the individuals perception in perceiving the environment are searched out. Urban areas are spaces in which most of the people today live and interact with their physical surrounding. In this respect the theories that have been developed on the perception of urban spaces by urban resources. Motion has been considered as a factor which affects the individual?s space perception and the demonstration of spatial potentials. For this reason, natural process of motion is worked in this work. Motion, time and space terms are associated, and then the experiences of the moving individuals in urban space which he/she constitutes in awareness, mastery, understanding and sequences. The term of velocity has been scrutinized as a sub-term of the motion which alters urban spatial perception due to the increase in motion capability in today?s urban spaces. In fieldwork, videos have been recorded while proceeding on two different modes of travel in a selected space and experimental study has been conducted related to perceptual tendency of 50 participants watching the videos. As a result of the experiment, numerical data about the tendency of district and elements have been gained and the data have been converted into visual map with the help of Arc GIS (Geographical Information System). In the visual maps arranged in accordance with the result of the experiments, it has been found out that tendency of observers who have experienced the space changed depending on varying modes. Especially when the experiencing the space with high and low speeds, it has been discovered that scale differences led to visual perception changes. As a conclusion, characteristic of an urban space have only been made clear with analyzing the perceptual changes of individuals who have experiences the spaces in motion. Apart from presenting certain data with results, this work has gıven importance to the movement factor in urban spaces. It has been designed as a model that can be developed by covering different factors for up-coming studies. Key word: urban space, human, perception, visual perception, urban space perception, experiences, movement factor, perceptual change depending on the speed.
