Antalya city and wall buildings from antiquity to the Republic Period in the context of urban planning and architectural building

In this thesis, the restoration practices (1812 – 1914) executed in Antalya Castle and bulwark* structures in the content of urban planning and architectural structuring of Antalya were examined and besides the sources such the Repair Books in the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Directorate of State Archives, Sharia Registries, Tahrir Books as travel books were based on. Anatolia is a geography where many firsts were experienced in spatial terms. Antalya hosted Bergama Kingdom, Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Seljuk Empire and Ottoman Empire since paleolithic era. Because of this, city contains a great deal of cultural layers in itself, both with its location on an important trade network route and with a strong defense architecture and rich archaeological remains. The castle, which is among the most important cultural elements of Antalya, continued its existence until the beginning of the 20th century by strengthening the walls with the repairs it underwent. Kaleiçi, which has many social, economic and architectural importance, maintains its importance and existence today as it has many cultural and historical elements with its architectural structures, surviving fortifications and gates.
