Associating the urban design with ecological sustainability and sampling in housing development estates

Domination passion of humankind over the world led them to make various interferences to the nature and, as a result of this, to the disturbance of ecological balance, and even to the reach of ecological threat until unrecoverable dimensions. However, continuity of human being will be enabled with the providing of ecological continuity. Today, the sayings about ecological sustainability increasingly come up in every field. Therefore, it is arisen the requirement to associate such an important issue with our professional area. In this study, first the framework of urban design was studied and it was established; how urban design in our country has been oriented. Urban design was searched to be examined in the world on the applications in developed countries and in our country on studies in academic areas and on competition platforms where it can find the single field of application. After discussing the topics orienting urban design, association it with the topic of ecological sustainability was tried to be realized by relating to any topic within its own radius of action. The speedy population increase that is the one of the biggest problem of our urban and housing need along it and the phenomenon of public housing as a solution of this were discussed and ecological sustainability and applicability of it in housing settlements, the design principles of public housing were attempted to be determined. Data obtained as a result of whole of those studies were evaluated by criticising within the context of ecological sustainability of İzmir, Buca Evka-1 public housings that are the current public housing settlement.
