Abstract (EN)

The preservation of historical environments, which we can call cultural heritage areas brought by societies from the past to the present, is very important in terms of urban identity and continuity. However, as time passes, these regions wear out mostly due to physical, economic or social factors and show themselves to us as outdated areas. Accordingly, their place in the social memory is weakening, so they need urban renewal practices in order to reintroduce the city to the city and its inhabitants. Over time, many definitions have been made about the concept of urban renewal, which has been the subject of debate in our country and all over the world, and it has gone through different development processes. It still maintains its importance today as it was in the past. In our country, as in other countries, many urban renewal applications have been made and continue to be made by local governments. Within the scope of the thesis, the aim is to investigate the spatial and legal dimensions of urban renewal studies, to reveal how the subject should be handled in the proposed urban renewal-oriented plan studies, and to consider the change that Topucak Neighborhood, one of the important historical settlements of Karaman, has experienced from past to present, The renovation project prepared by local governments was examined. While examining the prepared renovation project, analyzes, comparisons and evaluations were made within the scope of the past, current and proposed project by using the space syntax method in order to make an objective evaluation and to support the research with numerical analysis.
