To evaluate changes of hybrid contact lens values of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with uv-A/riboflavin in patients with progressive keratoconus.

PURPOSE: To evaluate changes of hybrid contact lens values of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with UV-A/riboflavin in patients with progressive keratoconus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, the 34 eyes of 18 patients with progresive keratoconus were fitted with SynergEyes Clearcone hybrid contact lens. The 19 eyes of these 18 patients were treated with CXL. The 19 eyes who were treated with CXL and 15 eyes who were not treated with CXL were fitted with SynergEyes Clearkone again at 6 months follow up. Complete ophthalmic examination was done preoperatively and postoperatively including uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), manifest refraction, parameters of corneal topography by Pentacam and slit lamp examination. RESULTS: The flat keratometry (K1) was decreased from 50,18±3.47D (Diopter) to 48,34±3,46D at the last examination (P<0.001). The steep keratometry (K2) was decreased from 55,5±4.53D to 53.63±3.72D at the last examination (P<0.001). The mean keratometry (Km) was decreased from 52,2±3.76D to 51,2±3.76D at the last examination (P<0.001). The maximum keratometry (Kmax) was decreased from 60,2±4.68D to 56,6±4,03D at the last examination (P<0.001). The mean uncorrected distant visual acuity (UDVA), best corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA) was improved from 0.35±0,20 to 0.39±0.22 at the last postoperative examination (p<0.04). Preoperative the hybrid contact lens value VLT (Vault) was decreased from 315±119D to 255±77D at the last examination (p<0.03). CONCLUSION: SynergEyes Clearcone hybrid contact lenses improve visual acuity significantly in our study. We showed that treatment with CXL improves vision and values of keratometry and also decrease VLT and PWR (power) of hybrid contact lens. Therefore the 10 eyes of 19 patients who were treated with CXL had need a new hybrid contact lens receipt at 6 months later.
