Evaluation of women's labor in the context of intersectionality approach: the case of women textile workers in Erzincan province

The historical social position of women is the product of a multi-layered and complex system of inequality that cannot be explained solely on the basis of biological sex. In this context, women are subjected to multifaceted oppression that is not limited to patriarchal structures but also intersects with class, ethnic, cultural and economic determinants. In order to understand the place of women's labor within the social structure, not only gender but also factors such as class, age, ethnic identity, marital status and care responsibilities need to be considered together. This study aims to make a holistic contribution to gender studies and labor literature by addressing multiple inequalities in women's labor from an intersectional perspective. For this reason, the study is based on the intersectionality approach and analyzes the specific forms of inequality experienced by women workers at the intersection of multiple disadvantaged identities. The textile sector in Erzincan, which is the focus of the study, is considered as a sample area where women's labor is identified with gender roles and class position directly affects the labor experience. In this qualitative data collection study, in-depth interviews with women working in the textile sector in Erzincan revealed that women experience multidimensional inequalities due to social norms, spatial boundaries, lack of access to education and family responsibilities, as well as unfavorable conditions in the workplace.
