Özet (EN)

Cutting fluids are widely used at machining of metals due to the increase on tool life. With theadvantages of cutting fluids, their effects on the operation, environment and human health arebeing researched and the essential improvements about cutting fluids are being done.In this work properties and functions of cutting fluids are examined and their effects onworkpiece and cutting tool material are detailed. The corrosion effect which is a major effectof cutting fluids, is investigated extensively and to tell the relationship between the cuttingfluids and corrosion effect, corrosion experiments have been done. By measuring the weightincrease of the specimens which have been machined by using different cutting fluids and leftto rest, corrosion behavior is established. Macro and micro photographs of specimens havebeen taken and the progress of corrosion is observed. Also to see the corrosion effect ofcutting fluids which are at different concentrations, Chip Tests have been done. By surfaceroughness measurements, the effects of cutting fluids on machined surface are explained.The deformations that are occurred during machining on the workpiece and cutting toolmaterial are defined. Furthermore by doing lathe experiments with using cutting fluids and atdry cutting conditions, cutting tool wear and chips have been investigated.It is concluded that to prefer between machining with cutting fluids or dry, the workpiece andthe cutting tool varieties play an effective role.Keywords: Metalworking, machining, cutting fluids, corrosion, dry cutting.JURY:1.
