Karst geomorphology of the west of Kestel Mountain (Burdur)

Abstract (EN)

The research area to the west of Kestel Mountain has an area of approximately 176 km² and 64% consists of rocks suitable for karstification. In order to determine the karst geomorphology of the area, first of all, geological maps and sections from 1/100.000 scaled M24 and N24 geology sheets, as well as karst classification maps and rock analysis of the site were made. 4 topography maps (M24-d3, M24-c4 and N24-a2, N24-b1) with a scale of 1/25.000 were used for slope, aspect, elevation and other analyses. The evaluation of the factors affecting the karstification of the field was made through the maps prepared by utilizing GIS programs as well as similar programs, and the geomorphology map of the area was produced through these programs. In the study, characteristic doline, polje and fluvio-karstic structures developed in semi-karstic Eocene-Lower Miocene (Elmalı Formation) and Quaternary (Old fluvial formations, Conglomerates) aged units and karstic structures developed on Triassic full karstic units (Dutdere limestones) were revealed. , analyzes of the geomorphological evolution of the field are explained. The poljes (Bereket, Aksu, Sinop, Kurucaova, Aziziye and Bozlar) covering a large area in the research area, whose western and southwestern areas are characteristic with Pliocene (DIII) surfaces, developed in the belt between these levels and Kestel Mountain. Aziziye and Bozlar poljes in the field developed entirely within Elmalı formation, Kurucaova Polje was developed in the contact zone of Elmalı formation and Dutdere limestones, Sinop Polje was completely over Dutdere limestones, Aksu and Bereket poljes developed in the contact zone of Dutdere limestones and Kızılcadağ melange and olistostromes (side polje).Again, in the southeast of Bozlar Polje, dolines that contain water throughout the year and dolines that are characteristic of greenhouse karstification have developed. On the Dutdere limestones, which outcrop in a wide area in the north of the site, the elongated (expanded) doline topography is characteristic on Çal Hill (1657 m), which is an exhumed surface. Fluviokarstic depressions are common in the field and contain different spatial features. These structures were evaluated under four headings in the study (a- Fluvio-karstic Depressions Draining Poles b- Fluvio-karstic Depressions Around Erikli Village c- Fluvio-karstic Depressions in and Around Yascali Hill d- Yesildag Fluvio-karstic Depression).
