Pantheon of Kibyra and the cults in its territory

This study aims to detect the believes of the individuals, communities and people who had lived in Kibyra, located today to Gölhisar, district of Burdur, and its territory named after the city itself during the antiquity by the help of epigraphical documents. In particular, attention is drawn to the basis of individuals' belief in the gods and goddesses subject to their beliefs, the purpose for which they need to worship the relevant gods, and whether these beliefs are accepted as official beliefs / cults in urban life. The study also aims to make a holistic assessment by collecting the material cultural remains left behind by the people, communities and individuals who lived in antiquity regarding their beliefs. For this reason, the cults and the data on these cults in Kibyra and its teritory, which hosted four different peoples and cultures – Lydian, Pisidian, Greek and Solymian – were first analyzed through inscriptions, and then all data were supported by the depictions on coins, temples and other finds that can be traced. Although there is insufficient data dating back to the Roman Imperial Period both in the city and in the countryside, an attempt has been made to explain why the beliefs identified were believed, and to interpret the existence of these beliefs in earlier periods. In line with the data obtained, a series of comments have also been made on how the city and the people under the city's territory named the gods and the ethnicities.
