Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACTEvaluation of Locking Plate/Screw System After Sagittal Split RamusOsteotomy: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element AnalysisSagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) is a surgical procedure used for the correctionof congenital and acquired deformities of the lower jaw. This technique was describedby Obwegeser and Trauner and modified by Dal Pont and Hunsuck. Miniplate andscrews have been used for the fixation of osteotomies since 1980?s. Lockingplates/screws were produced and used at reconstructive and trauma cases to overcomethe well-known disadvantages of standard miniplates and to increase the stability. Theaim of this study was to compare the stability of 2.0mm locking screws/plates vs.2.0mm standard miniplates/screws after SSRO by finite element analysis. SSRO and5 mm advancement were performed on a computer model and maximum bite forcesof 200 N was applied. As a result there was no significant difference between thestandard plate/screw and locking plate/screw systems when the forces transmitted tothe bone was considered.Key Words: SSRO, FEA, locking plate/screw, convensional plate/screwiv
