Abstract (EN)

Escherichia coli is one of the major components of normal intestinal microflora. It is also a opportunistic organism that can cause infections in distant tissues and organs. Even though E.coli is frequently associated with community acquired urinary tract infections, it is also an important cause of nosocomial infections in patients with underlying severe disease. The widespread use of quinolons for therapy in recent years has contributed to the acquisition of resistance to these antibiotics by E.coli. The aim of this study was to investigate the otherantibiotics resistance of clinical isolates of quinolone resistant E.coli. A total of 153 quinolone resistant clinical isolates of E.coli was used in this study. The isolates were provided by the Microbiology Laboratory of the Teaching and Research Hospital of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University. The identification of these isolates was made by conventional methods. The results demonstrated that some of the quinolone resistant clinical isolates ofE. coli from the Rize Province acquired resistance mostly to β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitör combinations and to a lesser extent to carbapenem.
