The impact of personality characteristics and risk perception on the decision-making styles: A study on the pilots.

The aim of the study is to explore the impacts of personality characteristics and risk perception on the decision-making styles. This survey data was collected from general aviation flights operating according to the rules 308 helicopter pilot. This study also scrutinizes the variance in abovementioned variables caused by demographic factors. As a result analyses, we see a significant and positive association between rational decision-making style and extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness and a significant and negative association between emotional stability of personality characteristics. Besides, we trace a significant and negative association between avoidant decision-making style and extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, agreeableness and a significant and positive association between emotional stability of personality characteristics. A positive association between rational decision-making style and high risk and general life risk perception have been identified. A negative association between spontaneous decision-making style and personality characteristics and risk perception was observed. In addition, we find some significant associations between abovementioned variables and demographic variables such as flight hours, flight years, age and pilot flight status.
