Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT To reveal the personal, physical, psychological and medical characteristics of women with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy We aimed to examine and discuss the relationship between personal temperament characteristics and the frequency and severity of nausea-vomiting. Materials and Methods: Live pregnancies of ≤14 weeks, presenting to our hospital between 01 June 2020 and 01 June 2021, whose complaints were of nausea and vomiting included in the study. In addition to the clinical and laboratory evaluation of the patients, the PUQE score was used to determine the severity of nausea and vomiting, and their psychosocial and environmental characteristics were recorded. TEMPS-A questionnaire was applied to determine personal temperament characteristics and personality definition. Chi-square test statistics were used to compare categorical measures between groups. T-test was used in independent groups, and Mann Whitney U test was used in case the assumptions were not met. Results: During the study period, 250 patients who met the criteria were evaluated. The mean age, body mass index, gestational week and PUQE score of the patients were 29.64±5.94, respectively; 25.74±5.33; 9.32±2.41; It is 6.12±2.81. No relationship was found between body mass index, education status, number of abortions, gestational age, and the woman's employment status and the severity of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. While the mean PUQE was 8.8±3.8 in those with dominant temperament, it was 5.8±2.5 in those without dominant temperament, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). The rate of living in the same city with the family is higher in those with a dominant temperament, 93.1% (p=0.048<0.05). The prevalence of dominant temperament was higher in the "both families living in the same city" group (14.4%), the difference was statistically significant (p=0.023). The mean PUQE score was 8.0±4.1 in the "easily angered" patient group than the other groups, and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.048). The mean PUQE score of those with a history of GBC in the previous pregnancy was 6.5±2.8, and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.034<0.05). Conclusion: Dominant temperament is a factor for the frequency and severity of nausea-vomiting during pregnancy. People with dominant temperament are more inclined to live in the same city with their families and need psychosocial support from the environment in coping with nausea and vomiting. In patients living in the same city with both families, the prevalence of dominant temperament and indirectly severe nause and vomiting is higher. The severity of nause and vomiting is more common in patients with a personality definition that is easily angered personal temperament characterictics are also a factor of the frequency and severity of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
