Kitâb-ı Güzîde-i ͑İlm-i Tıbb Muhammed Bin Mahmûd-ı Şirvânî (Introduction-research-text-index)

During the history Turks made many important inventions and one of the most important areas of them is medicine. These works had a crucial importance for Turkish language, literature, history and culture. Especially there was an orientation to scientific works in 14. century. Some of these works were copies and some of them were translations. From the period of Old Anadolian Turkish, hundreds of works of different areas were written in Turkish and that was the main reason that Turkish language progressed in speaking manner as well as in literature. Work named Kitâb-ı Güzîde ͑İlmi Tıbb which was written by Muhammed bin Mahmûd-ı Şirvânî in 15. century is a medicine book. There are six copies of Sultâniyye that was offered to Çelebi Mehmet by Şirvânî. The work that was researched is the oldest example of Kitâb-ı Güzîde ͑İlmi Tıbb. While visiting Egypt for the scientific research Şirvânî used some of the most important works about medicine, written in that period. This work is registered in England in the British Library Oriental and India Office Collections with number 15019. This work, which has great importance for the history of the medicine, also contains methods of making ointment, paste and compounds for treatment. The plants, which are the main elements for ointment, paste and compound have always been indispensable for the mankind. The book is also important because it shows the reflection of 15. century to nowadays, some characteristics of the language of that period and also the great treasury of vocable. The work is formed of four chapters: introduction, analysis, text and directories. In the introduction chapter are given information about life and work of Muhammed bin Mahmud-ı Şirvânî and also the methodology and purpose of the work are explained. In the analysis chapter were examined spelling, phonetic and morphology. After the transcript was made, the grammatical sequence was prepared in Cibakaya programme and also words that are in the sequence are given in their dictionary meaning.
