Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between the severity of disease and dyspnea, and anxiety and depression levels individuals with COPD. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive study sample consisted of 238 COPD individuals who came to the chest diseases clinic in a public hospital. The data were collected using the patient presentation form, COPD evaluation test (CAT), Hospital Anxiety (HAD-A) and Depression Scale (HAD-D), and Medical Council Research (MRC) Scale. The mean ± standard deviation (mean±SD), number, percentage distributions, Spearmen correlation test were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The mean age of the individuals diagnosed with COPD who participated in the study was 67,1 ± 11,4 (36-94) years and the majority (79,4%) were male. The average score of the COPD assessment test was 25,4±5,6 (9,0-39,0), Medical Research Council was 2,2±1,0 (0,0-4.0), and the Hospital Anxiety Scale was 7,0±4,0 (0,0-16,0) and Depression Scale was11,0±2,9 (4,0-18,0). There was a significant positive correlation between COPD and dyspnea severity and anxiety and depression levels. The levels of CAT are explained by MRC test 50%, HAD-A 27% and HAD-D18% in COPD patients, Conclusion: As the severity of COPD and dyspnea increases, anxiety and depression levels also increase. According to this; reducing the severity of COPD and dyspnea can be suggested to reduce anxiety and depression levels individuals with COPD.
