An Analysis on Koca Rāgib Mehmed Pasha and his work "Hāshiya Alā Tafseer al-Kādī al-Baydāwī"

In this study, the annotation (hāshiyya) of Koca Mehmed Rāgib Pasha (d.1698/99-1763) to Baydāwī's tafsīr book called Anwāru't-tanzîl wa Asrāru't -ta'wīl was analyzed in terms of its content and method. Vasıf Efendi -who was a chronicler in his time- defined Koca Mehmed Rāgib Pasha (1698/99-1763) -who was literary scholarly talented and the famous statesman- as "İnsan-ı kâmil denilmeye sezâ, sadru'l-vüzerâ elkabına revâ." In the first chapter, the life, scholarly personality and the works of Rāgib Pasha are mentioned briefly. In the second and the third chapter, initially, information about style and genre of the annotation is given and then it is aimed to analyze both linguistic/literary analysis which is in the content of the annotation and the elucidation of the meaning. Furthermore it is attempted to analyze the annotation in the perspectives of Qur'ânic Sciences and tafseer method. Thereby, it is illuminated that whether Ragib Pasha's analysis in his work is unique and deep or not. Keywords: Qur'ān, Tafseer, Hāshiyya, Baydāwī, Rāgib Pasha, Nuskha.
