Durability properties of concrete roads substitution colemanite

Abstract (EN)

In this study, colemanite mineral is substituted with 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% cement and C30/37 concrete was produced with water/cement ratio of 0,45. Air content and slump amount of fresh concrete were determined. Capillary water absorption, Schmidt hammer, ultrasonic pulse velocity, abrasion, flexural and compressive strength tests were performed on the concrete specimens poured into cube, cylinder and prismatic molds on 7th, 28th and 90th days. It is an undeniable fact that climatic factors and chemical effects from ground and de-icing salts exposed to concrete roads have negative impacts on concrete durability. Therefore, wetting and drying, freezing-thawing, sulphate and chloride durability properties of the specimens which are designed as concrete roads were investigated. As a result, colemanite substitution up to 5% provides target compressive strength in concrete class C30/37. It was found that the optimum colemanite substitution rate which improves the strength and durability properties was 3%. It is concluded that colemanite is used in concrete roads especially in terms of development of material properties against environmental conditions, saving of cement and evaluation of boron mineral minerals.
