The evaluation of the effects of the education about cholesterol on the women's knowledge level

Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY 48 women between 17 and 50 ages who study in painting wooden, embroidery, mats and sewing courses in Public Education Center in Adapazarı have been taken for establishing the level of knowledge of women in cholesterol and healthy nourishment and also for finding the effect of the education which will be given for their level of the knowledge. The research has not only been made according to survey method but also has a feature of experimental research on control without group. In the education, handbook, computer, projector and placard have been used. The methods of education are question-answer, group discussion and narration. The data have been picked up by means of questionnaire form which has been prepared and a test of defining level. In the question form which has been prepared according to the individual feature. There are 17 questions. Some parts of these questions are open-pointed and some of these questions are close-pointed. And in the test of level which is for measuring the knowledge, there are 25 questions which are in the way of true-false. Before education a test of defining level and question form have been applied to the women. After that 5 week education has been given about cholesterol and healthy nourishment and the same test of defining level has been applied as last test again. In the analysis of data: frequency, percent, arithmetical average, standard deviation and the test which is related to two groups have been used. According to the results of the research, it is seen that 81.3 % of the women are between 15 and 25 years old and 37.5 % of the women are graduated at the primary school. It is determined that 3 1.3 % of the women are smokers and 6.3 % of the women have heart and vessel diseases. According to the Index of Body Mass, the average of the women who have excessive kilos are 18.8 %. Before education, when the average of the points which is taken from the given expressions relating to mthe levels of the knowledge of the cholesterol and the nourishment of the women is 14.85 ± 4.36 it increases to 20.77 ± 3.73 at the last test which is put into practice after education. This difference is found important as statistical. (p<0.05) It is concluded that the education has an important degree effective on increasing the levels of the knowledge of the cholesterol and the nourishment of the women. It is thought that education is effective to protect the people from the cardiovascular diseases and to decrease these diseases. This education is given by the means of communication as radio and TV in the institution of widespread education. IV
