Investigation of immunreactivity of asprosin, meteorin like-protein and irisin in colon adenocarcinomas

Abstract (EN)

Colorectal cancers are an important health problem worldwide and are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The most common form of coleraktal cancer is adenocarcinoma constituting 98% of all cases. Cancer cells derive their energy by aerobic glycolysis independent of the presence of oxygen in the environment. Recently, hormones effective on glucose metabolism have been discovered, namely asprosine,meteorin like-protein (METRNL) and irisin. In this study, we aimed to investigate the immunoreactivity of asprosine, METRNL and iris in the colon adenocarcinomas. Randomly selected 60 colon adenocarcinoma (20 grade I, 20 grade II, 20 grade III) and 20 normal colonic mucosa samples were taken from the archives of Fırat University, Department of Pathology. Immunohistochemically staining and levels of asprosin, METRNL and irisin were examined in a total of 4 groups. A statistically significant increase in the immunoreactivity of the irisin was observed in Grade I and Grade II colon adenocarcinomas. When compared with Grade I and Grade II colon adenocarcinomas, there was a statistically significant decrease in the immunoreactivity of the irisin in Grade III colon adenocarcinoma. A statistically significant increase in asprosin immunoreactivity was observed in Grade I and Grade II colon adenocarcinomas. A statistically significant decrease in asprosin immunoreactivity was observed in grade III colon adenocarcinoma. While there was no statistically significant difference in METRNL immunoreactivity in Grade I colon adenocarcinoma, a statistically significant increase in METRNL immunoreactivity was observed in Grade II colon adenocarcinomas. A statistically significant decrease in METRNL immunoreactivity was observed in grade III colon adenocarcinoma. In conclusion, we think that changes in irisin, asprosin, and METRNL immunoreactivities in colon adenocarcinomas may play a role in the early diagnosis and grading of colon adenocarcinomas with more detailed studies in the future.
