Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, most of the concrete and steel structures unfortunately remain unprotected against the destructive and damaging effects of earthquakes. As for the architectural structure requirements or for the purpose of structural use, many architectural structures are carried out in an asymmetrical plan. On the other hand many structures having symmetrical design have uneven distribution of the mass. Nonuniform mass distribution and asymmetrical plan of the structures, leads the structures to have torsional moments during the earthquake motions. These earthquake caused these moments bring on new additional vertical shear forces on vertical loadbearing elements. This additional shear stresses also increases with the increasing distance between the center of gravity and the center of rigidity, where as a result of these additional shear stresses the structure may face severe damages. In the designing of the earthquake resistant structures, according to the traditional approach; the way to protect the structure from such kind of earthquake damages is to make a symmetrical structural design and to ensure the center of gravitiy and the center of rigidity on the same vertical axis. However, in the modern approach which can be used in a wider range of fielr application today, seismic behavior of such structures is a recoverable condition by using structural control mechanism. Thus seismic damage risk of the structure is minimized. For the structures under the influence of forces caused by earthquakes, this study has been focused on the benefits of controlling the behavior of structures by using elastomer based seismic isolation. This study also analyzes the forces on the elastomer based seismic isolators formed by the earthquakes and also examines the elastomer based seismic isolators in detail. In particular one of the main objective of this study is to analyse the forces and stresses of the "Elastomer Based Seismic Isolators" which have been placed either under the columns or beams of the buildings and bridges, below reinforced concrete and steel structures in order to avoid the damaging and devastating effects of the earthquakes. In this study, based on the analysis of the forces formed on the seismic isolators, new generation performance increased Elastomer Based Seismic Isolators' development has been targeted and it has been developed a new isolator which has elastomer core ELRB. and it has been given information in detail at chapter seven.
