Abstract (EN)
Investigation of Relationship Between Colorectal Cancer Fatalism, Sensitivity and Barriers Perceptions Aim: Determine the Turkish validity and reliability of Colorectal Cancer Fatalism Inventory and if it is proved valid, examine the relationship between fatalism, susceptibility and barrier perception regarding participation in colorectal cancer screenings and the associated factors. Material and Method: This study whose first stage was methodological and second stage was descriptive was conducted in Yenişehir FHC region of Kars between June 2016 and December 2017. Sample of the first stage of the study consisted of 200 and the second stage was 336 individuals. It was used two socio demographics form and four scales in the study. The data were analyzed via SPSS 17 packaged software by using numbers, percentages, mean, standard deviations, factor analysis, Cronbach α coefficient and item total correlations. Results: In the first stage of the study, it was determined that the Turkish version of the scale also had one subscale and was above 0.30 in all items and the variance being explained was 34.77% and the Cronbach α was 0.80. In the second stage of the study, it was found that the participants obtained scores of fatalism, susceptibility and barrier perception significantly differed in terms of the level of income, occupation, information source for their CRC knowledge, at what age CRC screenings were made, and knowing that cancer history in family increases the risk (p<0.05). Scores of fatalism and susceptibility perception significantly differed in terms of educational level, state of previously participating in CRC screenings and considering to participating in screenings in the future (p<0.05). Scores of fatalism and barrier perception significantly differed in terms of knowing that CRC screenings are made for free, knowing where CRC screenings are made, consuming fresh vegetables and fruits, and knowing that obesity increases the risk (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that Colorectal Cancer Fatalism Inventory is valid and reliable in the Turkish. Income, occupation, information source of CRC knowledge, at what age CRC screenings were made, and knowing about the fact that cancer history in family increases the risk were common factors affecting fatalism, barrier and susceptibility perceptions.
