Abstract (EN)
Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) is expressed exclusively in normal intestinal mucosal cells, and primary and metastatic colorectal cancers (CRC). This study aims to determine the level of GC-C and Cytokeratin 20 (CK20) in peripheral blood of CRC patients associated with stage, prognostic parameters and reply to therapyIn this study, we included 49 CRC patients and 41 healthy controls with similar age and sex. Plasma GC-C and CK20 levels are measured by RT-PCR methodA correlation between GC-C and CK20 values of all patients and control group could not be detected (p>0.05). Outset GC-C and CK20 values of the metastatic patients were higher in relation to control group (GC-C; p=0.00, CK20; p=0.143). After chemotherapy, a reduction in GC-C levels of the ones who had regression (p=0.00), and an increasement were detected in the ones who had progression (p=0.019). CK20 did not decrease in the regressed ones in relation to outset values (p=0.062), but it increased in progressed ones (p=0.041There were no correlations between the values of outset GC-C and CEA (p>0.05), CK20 and CEA (p>0.05), and CA19.9 (p>0.05), but the values of GC-C and CA19.9 (p=0.00) were correlated. In regressed ones, the values of GC-C and CEA (p=0.00), GC-C and CA19.9 (p=0.00), CK20 and CEA (p=0.00), CK20 and CA19.9 (p=0.00) showed a decrease, and in progressed ones the values of GC-C and CEA (p=0.00), GC-C and CA19.9 (p=0.012), CK20 and CEA (p=0.00) ve CK20 and CA19.9 (p=0.035) showed increasementAs a result, in CRC CEA, CA19.9 levels and CK20 mRNA can be used in detecting the lesions progressed by hematogenous way in early phase. In this way, a cure possibility for subgroup of the patients with CRC, which will be relapse, can be provided. In metastatic illnesses, reducing the treatment costs by early determining of the patients not responding to the treatment, as well as applying the treatments in convenient times by employing different treatment options earlier will be possible.
