Evaluation of serum betatrophin with complicated andnon-complicated TYPE 2 diabetic patients

Abstract (EN)
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycaemia resulting from insulin release, insulin effect, or both of these factors. Etiology is accused of insulin resistance, relative insulin insufficiency, and progressive insulin release defects on the basis of insulin resistance. Reducing the acute complications of the disease and protecting and educating the patient from chronic and expensive complications (neural, retinal, renal, cardiovascular) that may develop in the long term are the main goals of treatment. In this study, the relationship between serum betatrophin, IL-6 and TNF-alpha and other metabolic parameters was investigated in diabetic patients with complication and no complication. A total of 91 patients with 31 non-complications, 30 microvascular (neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy), 30 macrovascular (cardiovascular, renal insufficiency, cerebrovascular) complications were included in this study. HbA1c, insulin, c-peptide levels, HOMA-IR values, all lipid profiles, liver function tests, renal function tests were studied with the demographic characteristics of the patients. Serum betatrophin levels did not increase significantly in complicated diabetic patients compared to patients without any complication, but this increase was not statistically significant (p> 0,05) but the 10-17 % increase in TNF-alpha and IL-6 levels was significant (p <0 , 05). In patients with diabetic retinopathy and diabetic foot (DA), betatrophin, IL-6 and TNF-alpha levels were significantly higher than those without complications (p <0.05 As a result; Increased levels of betatrophin, TNF-alpha and IL-6 in complicated diabetic retinopathic patients may give an idea of the prognosis, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. There is a need for more patients to find out if betatrophin has a role in the stages of complication.
