Abstract (EN)

The main aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between authentic leadership and self-efficacy in city hotels which mainly serve to business tourism and resort hotels, and provide accommodation for holiday tourists. The study also tries to determine any possible relationship between the employees? perceptions of authentic leadership and such variables as age, gender, and hotel type. In Turkey, only three studies have been carried out on authentic leadership; but the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire has not been used in any of these studies. Thus, this questionnaire has been adapted to Turkish case to serve to the purposes of this study. The scope of the study are the five-star accommodations in İzmir city center and Çeşme District. In line with the data obtained by the structured survey techniques, first descriptive statistics are done. As Authentic Leadership Questionnaire is carried out in Turkey for the first time, both explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis are performed together to identify the validity of the scale. It is determined that the results of the explanatory factor analysis support the results of the confirmatory factor analysis and the scale consists of totally 16 statements and four dimensions as ethical/moral, transparency, self awareness and balanced processing. Hypothesis tests are carried out by factorial ANOVA, and factorial ANCOVA tests are carried out after descriptive statistics. In factorial ANCOVA test, self-efficacy was used as a covariate. The results have revealed that both the employees working at city hotels and those who work at resort hotels consider the behaviors of their administrators within the scope of authentic leadership irrelevant of their administrators? self- efficacy. The employees working at city hotels which primarily serve to the needs of business tourism have more positive attitude towards authentic leadership when compared to those working in resort hotels which serve as holiday accommodations. Female employees both in city hotels and resort hotels have more positive attitudes towards authentic leadership than their male counterparts. Finally, an analysis of age-gender relationship has revealed that female employees at the age of 25 and under have more positive attitudes than the males in the same age group.
