Evaluation of bone density measurement accuracy of cone beam computer tomography

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, we aimed to evaluate the bone density by radiography (computerized tomography-CT and cone-beam computed tomography-CBCT) on the fresh beef ribs we obtained from the slaughterhouse and to compare the data we obtained with mechanical and magnetic stability measurement methods. A total of 20 dental implants with a diameter of 4.1 mm and a length of 10 mm were placed on the ribs. Before placing the implant, 10 mm long implant sites were determined with a pilot drill, and the density of the 4.1 mm wide 10 mm long bone area of these regions was measured in HU (Hounsfield Unit) units with CT and CBCT. Then, after the standard milling protocol, the implant sockets were created and the implants were placed with a physiodispenser. Insertion and removal torques, which are mechanical measurements of primary stability, were recorded as numerical values. Then, RFA values were measured with an osstell device. Statistically, the correlation between HU values and mechanical and magnetic primary stability measurements was evaluated. In conclusion, we evaluated the relationship between cone beam computed tomography and medical computed tomography bone density measurement in fresh beef ribs, and we could not find a statistically significant relationship between them.
