Özet (EN)
This research has studied the effect of using location-based augmented reality during the orientation period of students who have just started university. 44 first-year students who were newly enrolled at Afyon Kocatepe University participated in this study. The experimental group comprises 23 first-year students, and the control group includes 21 first-year students. The application developed within the scope of the study was applied to the experimental group, and the students followed the orientation program with the application. Control group students, on the other hand, followed the guide-assisted orientation program flow with the traditional method. The students who had just started university were expected to adapt to the environment and university in an easier way through this application. Data were collected from the students who participated in the survey using a demographic and spatial knowledge forms, mobile orientation-assessment surveys and pre-tests and post-test location knowledge tests. Analysis showed that both groups had increased their post-information test scores after the orientation program. Similarly, a statistically significant difference was found between the post-test achievement scores of the groups in favor of the traditional orientation group. The spatial knowledge scores did not show any significant difference between experimental and control groups. Ultimately, based on the feedback gathered from the students in the experimental group regarding the process and application, it was found that they generally expressed a favorable attitude toward the process. They reported being able to receive assistance when faced with any issues and acknowledged that the application and process had a beneficial impact on them. Furthermore, they did not encounter any significant difficulties during their experience with the process. Consequently, given the benefits of the Location-Based Augmented Reality Mobile Application in terms of time and human resources, it can be concluded that the program will serve as a valuable tool in the orientation process once the necessary enhancements are implemented.
