Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the characterization of industrial wastewater collected from Büsan organized industry zone (OSB) in Konya was carried out. In addition to classical parameters, micropollutants with high toxicity, low biodegradability, carcinogenic effects and bioaccumulation on living things, which have recently gained great importance in the whole scientific world, have also been examined as analysis parameters. These substances, which are biologically resistant to treatment, can be discharged into receiving waters without being purified by microorganisms. A total of 12 samples were taken as three separate sets in order to compare the pollution values of the wastewater generated within the scope of the thesis and to determine the discharge period of the wastewater with the highest pollution and to check whether there was any illegal discharge. The first set of samples was collected during the day when production was busy, the second set was collected at the time when production ended and the facilities discharged the process water, and the third set of samples was collected during the weekend when industrial activities stopped and there was no production. Among these three samples, the contamination of the second set of samples was found to be quite high compared to the other samples. No illegal discharge was found in the sample taken over the weekend. 16 physicochemical parameter analyses, 13 heavy metal substance analyzes and additionally 26 micropollutant analyzes were carried out on the samples taken within the scope of the parameters of the discharge regulation to the sewage system applied by KOSKİ. Within the scope of micropollutants, 16 organic pollutants from the PAH group, 6 organic pollutants from the PAEs and plasticizers group, and 4 organic pollutants from the APs and BPA group were examined. In addition to all these analyses, Daphnia magna was subjected to acute toxicity testing in order to toxicologically evaluate industrial wastewater. Among the samples taken in three different sets, high concentrations of pollution were detected in the second set, which was taken at the time when the process and boiler waters were discharged after the industrial activity ended. As a result of micropollutant analysis, very high concentrations of DnOP and DEHP in the Phthalate esters group and BPA in the Alkylphenols and BPA group were detected. In addition, acenaphthene and fluorene, which are in the group of polyaromatic hydrocarbons, were found. While the DEHP concentration was detected as 3.52 μg/L- 1906.2 μg/L, the DnOP concentration was detected as 196 μg/L- 2865.3 μg/L. BPA concentration value was determined as 12989 μg/L. Acenaphthene and fluorene, among PAH group pollutants, were detected as 1.15 μg/L and 14.96 μg/L, respectively. In addition, after the heavy metal analyzes performed on the 2nd set samples, higher concentrations of Hg, Fe, Al, Cu and Zn were detected compared to the 1st and 3rd set samples. A total of 166 analysis results obtained within the scope of the thesis are presented comprehensively in the research results and discussion section. According to the results of the Daphnia magna acute toxicity test applied to the wastewater sample taken from the 3rd chimney within the scope of the 2nd set, industrial wastewater was evaluated as "slightly toxic". The wastewater generated by Büsan OSB is discharged to the sewer network where domestic wastewater is collected, and from there it is conveyed to Konya Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (KKAAT) for treatment. It is planned that the industrial wastewater generated in the future will be treated in a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) established within the OSB, before being sent to KKAAT. The outputs of this study constitute an important source and the data infrastructure for the design of an industrial WWTP that can be made within the scope of OSB.
