School children in konya prevalance of asthma between 2007-2018 and change in risk factors

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of asthma and allergic diseases and changes in related risk factors after 10 years in school children in Konya. Method: In this cross-sectional study, it can also be considered as an ISAAC Phase 3 study because of the change in prevalence over time. 2220 students between the ages of 6-18 participated in this study in rural and urban schools. In the collection of data; Introductory Questionnaire, Questionnaire for Risk Factors and Asthma, Rhinitis and Eczema Forms were used. Number, percentage, mean, Chi-square and Chaid Analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. In the study, permission of the institution, ethical consent and written consent of the families were obtained. Results: In our study, the frequency of wheezing was 21.8%, itchy rash over six months was 4.3% and allergic rhinitis was 43.2%. In this study, the risk factors associated with the prevalence of asthma were; family history, history of illness, smoking of students, number of cigarettes smoked at home and sharing of bedroom. The risk factors associated with the prevalence of allergic rhinitis were; smoking, family history of asthma, smoking at home, family history of eczema and feeding habits. Risk factors related to the prevalence of eczema of the students; The history of the disease, family history of eczema, and smoking until the age of one student were determined as smoking (p <0.05). Although the rate of asthma attacks during the last 12 months increased compared to 2007, doctor-diagnosed asthma, allergic rhinitis and eczema rates decreased. Conclusion: Significant proportions of asthma and allergic diseases are observed among the students in Konya and considering the relationship between environmental factors and protective factors, especially children with a family and a history of disease should be taken.
