A proposal model for reusing of the old konya electric trams and their revitalization in the city

The place and importance of transportation in human life are increasing day by day. It can be said that the development levels of the states can be measured with reference to their development and infrastructure in the field of transportation. Due to the changes in current trends, new developments in technology, changes in needs, aging and so on, make it inevitable to change the vehicles used in a field with new ones. Within this cycle, trams, which are important as transport, have a special place for their users. It can be said that these industrial products, which have become the symbol of the city, contain the memories of it, due to these memories, it became something more than just a vehicle. Within the framework of this main idea, urban railway transport that keeps importance for the city of Konya has been researched within the scope of the thesis, and its emotional ties with the city of Konya and its citizens were assessed. As a result of these evaluations, these vehicles, which services were discontinued on 29 October 2013, were observed to have historical, cultural and memorial value for the city of Konya. Also were made Evaluations on how these trams can be re-functionalized in Konya after they have been removed from use. In this context, a feasibility study was conducted in the relevant places of the city and the research was carried out in a way to ensure the participation of the citizens of this city. As a result of the thesis, it is concluded that these trams still have symbolic meaning for Konya, the emotional ties between citizens are take place, the suggested types of reuse methods arouse interest and approval of the citizens. The importance of the concept of re-functionalization in terms of memory, culture, and values of the city is important in terms of architectural structures, as well as the architectural features of these tram structures.
