Determination of the interventions in the historical hamam structures re-used in Konya

In the course of time, life styles of societies change due to cultural, economic, social, technological and psychological reasons. The resulting change also shows changes in the functions of the structures. New functions have emerged in line with new needs and certain functions have become obsolete since there is no need. Since the people are now bathed in the housing, the functions of the hamams was outdated.. Due to cultural values, some hamams are still in use. However, the number of historical hamam buildings that are not used with their original functions is very much today. For this reason, the historical baths in Konya were examined. Among the hamam buildings examined, some are using with new function, was detected. Meram Hasbey Bath and Sille Hacı Ali Ağa (Ak) Bath have been adapted to new functions. Ahmed Efendi Hamam, Mahkeme Hamam, Sahip Ata (Sultan) Hamam are used in their existing functions. Sille Subaşı Hamam is in the restoration phase and will be used with the new function. In this study, it is compared with each other according to the re-functionalization approach of the hamam structures and the positive and negative results of the re-functionalization concept on the hamam structures are revealed. In the first part of the study, the purpose, scope and method are explained. In the second part, the concepts of protection and repair and re-functionalization are explained based on the literature studies. In the second part, the concept of re-functionalization, the factors that require re-functionalization, the inputs affecting the selection of the appropriate function for the historical building, and the interventions that can be made to the historical building due to the new function are explained in detail. In the third chapter, the concept of hamam is examined. In the third chapter, the concept of Turkish hamam, the history of Turkish hammam architecture, Turkish hamam spaces, types of plan schemes and typology of Turkish hamam structures are explained. In the fourth section, information about the city of Konya is given. The culture of Konya hamams and the Turkish hamams of Konya was explained. Information about Meram Hasbeyoğlu Hamam, Sille Hacı Ali Ağa (Ak) Hamam and Sille Subaşı Hamam used in the central districts of Konya are given and examined.
