In this thesis, live bed scours around circular bridge piers were investigated within the scope of the TUBİTAK 109M637 project. The experiments were carried out in a rectangular flume of 80 cm width, 18.6 m length and 75 cm depth which was available in the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department at Dokuz Eylul University. The experiments were performed by generating flood hydrographs in the form of isosceles triangles. Time-dependent scours were measured with UVP (ultrasonic velocity profiler). Sensors were placed at upright position. Flow rates were measured with magnetic flowmeters and channel flow depths were measured by ULS (ultrasonic level sensor). The measured final depths of the scours were compared with those computed by using formulas existing in the literature. Empirical formulas based on experimentals findings are obtained for final scour depths as well as time-dependent scour depths.Keywords: Live bed, local scour, hydrograph, bridge pier, sediment transport
