Abstract (EN)

"Koroglu Epic" which is a common cultural treasure of the Turkic World, has drawn the attention of the science world and been a source for many researches since the 19th century. "Koroglu Epic" which has been told in oral tradition for over four centuries, has been a research subject in various ethnic geographies (Arab, Tajik, Kurdish, Armenian, Georgian…) as well as being in the whole Turkish literature world. We analyzed four branches from "Karakalpak Variant" of Koroglu Epic divided into two variants as the East and the West. This work composes the fifteenth volume of the work series named as "Karakalpak Folklore" consisting of twenty volumes. Together with our thesis' being generally text oriented, general information about the Karakalpaks and the relation between the Karakalpaks and Koroglu was given in the introduction part. In the first chapter, the theme and story line of "Marrying of Äwez, Arab Rayhan, Qırmandäli, Bazergen" branches. In the second chapter, the motive structure of the branches we studied were analyzed under the headline of "motives about animals, alpine motive, woman motive, deceit motive, vengeance motive, formulistic numbers, dream motive, spell and magic motive and social life elements". In the third chapter, language, form and style qualities; in the fourth chapter, personnel cadre; in the fifth chapter, place, clan and tribe names were elaborately studied. In the last chapter, the texts were translated from Cyrillic alphabet to Latin alphabet and from that to contemporary Turkish. Four consonants (q, ñ, x, w) and a vowel which are different from Turkish (ä) were indicated being true to the original form.
