Özet (EN)
Coronary artery disease is a life-threatening chronic disease when necessary preventive measures are not taken. Therefore, compliance with the recommended treatment and lifestyle changes is important in order not to worsen the course of the disease. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of education provided by academic nurse to patients with coronary artery disease on disease management. The study, which was planned as a randomized controlled and semi-experimental study, was conducted between September 2018 and March 2020, with patient diagnosed coronary artery disease and inpatient in the cardiology clinic of the State Hospital Southeastern Anatolia Region. The study was carried out the number of patients to be included in the study was determined by power analysis and 58 patients (intervention group = 30, control group = 28) were included in the sample. The data were collected by personal information form and compliance questionnaire (CQ). The increase in the score obtained from the compliance scale indicates that the compliance level increased. At the beginning of the study, personal information form and CQ were applied to all patients. After education was given to patients in the intervention group at 0, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks, CQ was re-administered to all patients. At the end of the study, education was given to the control group. Frequency, mann-whitney U, independent t, paired sample, wilcoxon and chi-square tests were used to analyze the data. Statistical significance level was determined as p <0.05. It was determined that 60.3% of the patients were male, 87.9% were married, 94.8% were literate / primary school / middle school graduates and 63.8% had less income than their expenses and none of them were previously trained on coronary artery disease. The pre-education compliance scale score of the patients was 22.53 ± 5.48 in the intervention group and 22.25 ± 7.02 in the control group (p> 0.05); after the education, it was found to 32.33 ± 4.82 in the intervention group and 24.04 ± 5.98 in the control group (p <0.001). It was observed that planned training given to patients with coronary artery increased compliance to the disease. In line with these results, planned and repetitive education may be recommended for coronary artery patients.
