Abstract (EN)

VIII. SUMMARYDiabetes mellitus increases is an acknowledged risk factor for theoccurrence of heart failure. Risk factors leading to the development ofheart failure are coronary disease, systemic hypertension and diabeticcardiomyopathy. We investigated the relation between the extent ofcoronary disease and cardiac function using pulse waved tissue Doppler.59 patients with adult type diabetes mellitus followed for 10 years,had been evaluated using Standard 2 Dimensional, conventional Doppler,M mode and tissue Doppler.Patients had been classified in different groups according to theseverity of coronary lesions assessed by coronary angiography. Wecompared parameters of different groups.In asymptomatic diabetic patients with normal left ventricular function,the presence and the extent of coronary artery lesions, had no significantadditional effect on systolic and diastolic function assessed by tissueDoppler compared to diabetic patients without coronary disease.Furthermore, conventional Doppler and pulse tissue Doppler arefound to be comparable for assessment of diastolic functions in diabeticpatients with coronary disease.We presume that the clinical value of tissue Doppler for assessingdiastolic dysfunction in long term diabetic patients is not superior toconventional Doppler.40
