Abstract (EN)
Objective: This methodological and randomized controlled experimental study' aim was to evaluate the effect of education given to coronary heart patients on self-care. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between June 2017-March2019 with hospitalized coronary heart patients in three training and research hospitals in Istanbul. Coronary Heart Disease Self Care Inventory' validity and reliability study was conducted with 272 patients. The Effect of Education Given to Coronary Heart Patients on Self-Care was evaluated with 78 patients. Individual self-care training were given to intervention group by face to face and training booklet, general care was given to control group. The groups were followed up in the first, third, fourth and sixth months. Data were collected with "Patient Information Form" and "SC-CHDI". In the data analysis, Friedman, Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney U test were used in comparison of self care scores. Results: SC-CHDI' factor structure showed a good model fit, cronbach's α values varied between 0.63-0.95. In third and six months, intervention group had higher self-care maintenance, management, confidence scores, and maintenance scale in autonomous and counsultative sub-dimension, management scale in early and delate sub-dimension at compared to control group (p <0.0001). Additionally, in autonomous sub-dimension, within-group scores of control group decreased at third and sixth months (p <0.0001). Conclusions: SC-CHDI was a valid and reliable tool can be used in Turkey. The educational program given by the nurse based on scientific approach increases self- maintenance, self-management and self-confidence behaviors in coronary heart patients. Keywords: self-care, patient education, coronary heart disease, validity, reliability.
