Behavior of corroded reinforced concerte slabs under the flexural loading effect

Abstract (EN)

Total of five two-way corroded reinforced concrete (RC) slabs were tested under flexure and compared with one uncorroded RC slab. An accelerated corrosion method was used to corrode the reinforcement bars embedment in concrete. Actual corrosion levels were obtained following the flexural strength tests by breaking the concrete and extracting all reinforcement bars. With the help of the actual corrosion levels at short and long directions of the RC slabs were obtained, experimental residual moment capacities of RC slabs at two directions based on yield line theorem were determined. Experimental data found in the literature were used for the validation of the previous and the newly developed models to predict the moment resisting capacities and failure loads of corroded RC slabs. From test results, the load-carrying and energy absorption capacities of reinforced concrete specimens were found to decrease with higher corrosion ratio. It was found that because of not obtained actual corrosion levels and used displacement and/or curvature methods for the calculation of energy capacities and ductility ratios of corroded RC slabs misleading the experimental test results found in the literature.
