Evaluation of cadaveric preservative effect of honey based solutions on sheep heart

In the study, the evaluation of the cadaver protective effects of the solutions which are underlying the honey is aimed as an alternative of formaldehyde which is very hazardous for human health. This research (Project No: 0484-YL-17) was supported by Scientific Research Projects Coordinator of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. In the study, 42 sheep hearts which are older than 6 months were used. After the slaugtering, the hearts were perfused with 0,9% salty water on the purpose of inhibiting the autolysis. Tissue samples were taken from the 6 hearts for the determination of the characteristics of fresh cadaver. Samples were taken from the experiment groups in 3rd, 75th, 150th, and 225th days for histological, microbiological, texture and colour analyses. In the study, in the macroscopic examination, there was a more clear hardness in hearts manipulation for I. solutions of A and B groups than II. and III. solutions. In examination about the shape of the hearts, it was observed that there was deformity (ventricular deformity) in I. solution while there was not any deformity in the other solutions. General fixation was found positive as histological. However, it was observed that histological structure was deformed later on. In the microbiological analysis, it was determined that there was no bacterial or mycotic growth. Moreover, according to the comparative results of hardness scale between subgroups, the hearth tissues that were hold in AI, AIII, BII and BIII solutions in 3rd day, in AIII solution in 75th day, in AII, AIII and BIII solutions in 150th day and in AIII and BIII solutions in 225th day were statistically found similar to fresh hearth tissue. According to the comparative results of hardness scale between groups, the hearth tissues that were hold in AI solution in 3rd day, in AIII solution in 3rd and 75th days, in BII solution in 3rd, 75th and 225th days was statistically found similar to fresh hearth tissue. According to the color analysis results of the study, in the statistical comparison in-group and between-groups in terms of L value, the fresh heart tissue was not found similar to heart tissues in experimental groups. In the scent analysis, percent value of the hearts that were hold in +4 ºC was found more positive than the hearts that were hold in the room temperature. Furthermore, I. solution was found similar to other solutions for the same situation. Consequently, after the subjective and objective examinations, the data that were obtained states that ideal solution was determined. Hence, in the light of the obtained data and experiences, it is thought to be beneficial that the solutions should be evaluated in organs that have different parenchyma tissue and characteristics, and whole cadaver.
